STAMP-N-TELL
SLIDING DOOR CARD CLASS - Part II
Taught by
Tammy Van Pelt
Now we are going to make two parts that are woven into the middle panel card.   I use left and right to get the parts cut out so they match my scans.  However, panel A will be flipped over when added to the middle section to match those cuts.  Use whatever cardstock you have left to cut out two pieces that are 2 1/2" by 5 1/2".  The cuts will be the same we made in the middle sections.

This is in shared files under Folder named: Sliding Card Templates Then under File named: TempAB.jpg (note "AB" NOT A or B)
OR http://www.egroups.com/files/stampntell/Sliding+Card+Templates/TempAB.jpg

Panel A:
Measure from right 3/4" and from the bottom 5/8" and cut that out.
Measure from right 3/4" and from the top 5/8" and cut that out.
Measure from left 1 3/16" and draw a vertical line.  Measure 1/8" and draw another vertical line.
Measure from the top and bottom 3/8" and draw horizontal lines connected to the vertical lines. (this symbol ] ) the "legs" on this should be 3/4" long and 1/8" thick.  Cut out.  Panel A should be done.
Panel B:
Measure from right 15/16" and from the top and bottom 7/8" and cut out these section.  Trim corners as shown in picture.  Measure from left 1 1/4" and draw a vertical line. Again we are making this symbol ]  the legs should be 3/4" long.  At each 90 degree angle cut out a small triangle. This panel should be done.

Now you should be ready to put it together!!
You need to glue Section A to Section B so you have one long panel.  Then glue together at the 3/8" double scored part.  You might trim one of these smaller so they fit together better and don't bind up.
Then you need to weave the panels A and B into sections A and B.  I have uploaded pictures that I really hope will help with this step.  You can find them under shared files under Folder named: Sliding Card Templates Then under File named: AWoven.jpg
OR

The red outlined piece is the additional panel A you cut out.  It is facing right in this picture (the card is upside down - sorry about that).  You are going to slide This piece in so the second flap of panel A glides into the hole cut out of Section A. And the first flap extends the card past the end of Section A.  The corners of the card and panel line up.  Hmm, does that make sense.  Please refer to the picture - it really should help.  Glue this in place at the top and bottom edge.  On the scan of Section A I have marked where I glue it with x (file TempA.jpg).  Now turn the card so that you have Section B on the right (so it will match the scan).  You can find this under shared files under Folder named: Sliding Card
Templates, Then under File named: BWoven.jpg
OR

Now you weave panel B into Section B.  If you keep the slats all facing the same direction it should go together easily.  The end of Panel B lines up with the end of the card on Section B.  Again, glue this into place.   With Section A on the left and B on the right fold center panel on scored lines.  Left side A will tuck in and weave behind right side B. I don't know how important it is, but the original card was glued by the single score line by section B.  Just at the top and bottom.   I usually add a couple pieces of double sided stick tape when I'm all done.

Now you are ready to glue this into the cover - remember making the cover way back at the beginning of the directions?

The Cover only has a single score line.  This is correct. Put the cover over your folded, woven, center panel.  If you fold it flat, the center panel should pretty much fit inside the cover.  Add glue to the part of the center panel that was scored (where the two sections were glued together.  This glues to the inside of the cover.  It is the only place you put glue to adhere it to the cover. Allow this to dry.  Now when you open the card - the "pull" of the cover should slide the doors (or blinds) apart so you have an unhidden picture (well, after you stamp it).

That's it!!!

TROUBLESHOOTING

As careful as I was with my instructions I'm certain you'll have absolutely no problems with this card <grin>.  But just in case, cause it seems like this card comes out a tad different each time I try it, here are some adjustments you may need to make.
If it is binding up when you try and fold it - when it's sliding together -  then one of your cut lines that are supposed to be 3/4" long wasn't quite long enough.  Find the culprit and cut it a bit longer.
When closed completely, the top flaps don't completely hide the edges of the "hidden" picture.  Use your exacto knife and carefully trim the annoying beasts :o)
When you open your card the top flaps do not completely uncover the hidden picture.  Well, even in the original advertisement, if you don't stretch the cover ALL the way open, then the hidden picture isn't completely uncovered.  However, when completely opened and flat the hidden "picture" should be
uncovered (this is how you stamp it. So, if with it open flat and the flaps don't dissappear, you'd need to trim one a bit.
Hope that covers some potential problems.
Don't forget that the card opens in back to add a personal message.  My sister says the cover needs to be bigger so that it overhangs and people know it opens in back - good suggest - it just uses more cardstock.
