STAMP-N-TELL
FAUX VINYL TECHNIQUE
Taught by Lorri Shapiro
SAMPLES:  There is a gorgeous sample ready to view.

SUPPLIES:
* Freezer Paper
* Cheap 44¢ Acrylic Paints from Wal*Mart (Apple Barrel Brand)

INSTRUCTIONS:

DAY ONE: Cut two pieces of freezer paper to about 9" x 12" or smaller. Make them pretty similar in size.
Thin the acrylic paint to a heavy cream consistency by adding a small amount of water to the bottle. Shake well. You will be happiest with the results if you use six 44¢ bottles with squirting nozzles.
Place one sheet of freezer paper on a smooth, flat surface with the shiny side up. With even pressure and a smooth movement, squeeze the paint onto the freezer paper in a continuous "m" pattern, working from top to bottom.
Repeat the above step with each color of paint. Try to keep the colors next to one another, not letting them drizzle on top of each other.
Place the second sheet of freezer paper shiny side down over the painted sheet of freezer paper. In other words--have the two sheets kiss one another...shiny side with paint up--shiny side without paint--down.
Rub lightly with your index finger as you lay the paper down, making sure there are no air bubbles trapped in between.
Continue to rub the surface of the paper to ease the paint outward toward the edges.
Now, gently rub the palm of your hand across the entire surface to make sure the paint is evenly distributed between the two sheets of paper.
Starting at the lower right-hand corner, slowly lift the top paper. Continue to lift the paper, pulling it diagonally toward the upper left-hand corner until the two sheets are separated.
There should be no pockets or air bubbles--just two gorgeous marbleized sheets of very wet paint!
Keep the vinyl art sheets on a flat surface to dry. Let them sit for about twenty-four hours.
Eat chocolate. Drool over how beautiful this is....but do not touch! Visit
Carol Duval's website for photographs and her directions if mine are unclear.

DAY TWO: After you have let your faux vinyl DRY for a day *Carefully* peel the vinyl from its paper backing. Place it on a flat surface wrong side up. Go slowly and you will ideally have one very long sheet of bendable marbleized faux vinyl. Take the masterpiece and wrap it around anything and everything you find. Use any adhesive you want--I have had the best results with decoupage varnish...but have tried several different pastes and glues. Twist--stretch and play with the vinyl. Wrap it around a bookmark and include a tassel. Cover up the lid of an ugly tin.Wrap it around a barrette backing. Make convention pins out of it.It makes a gorgeous background for a card.
